Similar

There are quite a few similarities between the medias that the students in 2004 used and the ones we use now. Almost all of the students stated that they used the internet, some even said they used sites such as google which we very much still use today. Many of them also used email, and watched TV shows that while not the same as the ones today followed the same genres and themes. A few also listed video games, and gaming consoles.

Dissimilar

A lot of the 2004 students listed a lot more physical media than the 2019 students. Commonly listed media included newspapers, records, CDs, and books. This is very different then the present medias as most of these have been made digital, in the form of streaming services and subscription sites. Another large difference was that many students had listed radio stations and shows that they listened to which did not appear in any of the current students lists.

Why

Most of the differences between the lists of media can be attributed to the fact that a lot of the media that earlier students used have been made digital in one form or another. TV has been replaced with Netflix, Hulu, HBO, etc., music is now streamed on Spotify, apple music, etc., and books have been replaced by eBooks. Some media has been replaced like newspaper and some have been expanded like the internet, email, phones, messaging apps, and even cars.
